Ending the Cold War
In November 1985, US President Ronald Reagan and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev met in Geneva to discuss arms control. In a symbolic gesture, the picture of the two superpowers’ leaders shaking hands marked a turning point that led to the end of the Cold War.
During the following decade, Germany was reunified, and Eastern Europe transformed with a redesigned map and redefined balance of power.
